Drug Rehabs and Treatment Centers by Recovery Phase
The process of recovery occurs in several phases. As each individual's needs differs, people may choose to select differing treatment types.
In Detoxification the addict has life-threatening toxins and active addictive substances purged from their system. This phase can take from one day to two weeks, depending on the individual and the particular drug involved.
Primary Treatment refers to the first treatment received after detox. Generally this program lasts from 28-30 days, although some specialty progams have greatly different time frames.
Extended Treatment programs range from one month to one year, and deepen the commitment to sobriety through continuing relapse prevention counseling.
Transitional Living refers to residential treatment facilities where people live in a sober living home, but go to work or school during the day.
Outpatient Treatment can range from once-weekly sessions with a certified addiction counselor to intensive treatment (sometimes called partial hospitalization).
Often people choose to spend the first few months or years after treatment in a sober living environment. Sober living homes can range from formal halfway houses to ordinary apartments.
